It's a long way from "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute" and Iron Eyes Cody shedding his single tear, but aboard luxe line Crystal Cruises' summer Alaska sailing, kids will get a taste of taste of environmentalism through a "Junior Rangers" program offered in cooperation with the National Parks Service.
When Crystal Symphony sails through Glacier Bay this May through August, park rangers will come aboard to lead kid-friendly activities and presentations about the area’s natural history. Via interactive projects and activity books, kids and teens can become Junior Rangers and earn official badges and certificates.
The rangers "ask kids to pledge to 'help take care of special places,'" said Bret Bullock, Crystal's VP of entertainment, in a media release. "Such innovative and collaborative education gets kids personally invested in the beautiful destinations they’re visiting."
The Junior Rangers activities are part of Crystal's larger kids-and-teens program, which also offers scavenger hunts, sushi-making classes, backstage costume "dress-ups," galley tours, arts and crafts, movies, piano lessons, kid-friendly shore excursions, and PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 video games in the Waves arcade.
Crystal Symphony is offering nine 12-day Alaska departures between May 9 and August 13, sailing round-trip from San Francisco and visiting Victoria, Vancouver, Sitka, Juneau, Skagway/Haines, Ketchikan, and either Glacier Bay or Hubbard Glacier. Fares start at $4,650 per person, and include round-trip airfare from any of 24 North American cities, plus $500 per-person onboard spending credits. Crystal’s "Family Memories Program" offers complimentary third-berth children's accommodations, additional credits, and family photos.
